Q: What is Ford ASSET?
A:  Ford ASSET is a two year, Associates Degree progam offered at ECC and sponsored by Ford Motor Company. Students in the Ford ASSET program benefit from a combination of classroom and hands-on training both at the school and in local area Ford and Lincoln/Mercury dealerships.
Q: How do I apply for the Ford ASSET program?
A: Applications for the ASSET program are accepted by the college admissions office, 4041 Southwestern Blvd, Orchard Park, NY 14127. You can reach the admissions office by phone at 716-851-1658.
Q: What are the requirements for the program?
A: Qualified candidates are high-school graduates who successfully complete a pretest in Math and English. To enroll in the ASSET program, a student must have a valid driver's license and be sponsored by a local Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealer.
Q: How do I get a dealership sponsor?
A: After applying for admission to the program, students who score well on the placement test are interviewed by prospective dealership service managers. The ASSET instructors at ECC arrange for these interviews with the dealership. Candidates are advised to work with the ASSET instructors to schedule interviews. Students who meet the admissions requirements for the program and are selected by a dealership sponsor are offered a seat in the program.
Q: What credentials does an ASSET graduate recieve?
A: Graduates of ECC's Ford ASSET program recieve an Associate in Applied Science degree from ECC along with a certificate identifying them as an ASSET graduate. These credentials are recognized by Ford and Lincoln/Mercury dealerships accross the United States. Students also recieve many factory certifications from Ford Motor Company. These Ford certifications make ASSET graduates desirable job applicants at dealerships all over the country.
Q: What classes will I take in the ASSET program?
A: The two year sequence is described here. The program consists of approximately 47 hours of automotive training and 20 hours of liberal arts/general education classes.
Q: What is the cost of the ASSET program?
A: Tuiton and fees are identical to any other two-year program at Erie Community College. Full-time tuition for the 2004-2005 academic year is currently $1,250.00 per semester for Erie County residents and $2,500.00 per semester for all others. In addition to tuition, fees total approximately $270.00 per semester. In addition, students are required to purchase approximately $1,200.00 worth of hand tools. Q: Are students paid for the cooperative work experience at the dealerships?
A: Yes. Students recieve wages from their sponsoring Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealership during the cooperative work experiences. Wage scales are recommeded by an advisory committee made up of sponsoring dealers and service managers. These wages help defray the cost of attending the program.
Q: Will I be hired by my sponsoring dealership upon graduation from the program?
A: While there is no binding contract between the student and the sponsoring dealership, most students are hired by their sponsoring dealer immediately upon graduation.
