Delivery of books and copies of articles to off-campus locations

To qualify as a Distance Learning Borrower you must:

  • Be a current ECC student

  • Not be enrolled in any ECC on-campus classes

  • Live more than 50 miles from an ECC campus

The library will deliver information resources to you via U.S. mail, whether those resources come from our collection or must be obtained from other library collections.

We ask that borrowed items be returned to us in the same manner in sufficient time to arrive by the due date.

To request materials owned by ECC libraries

Go to the library home page at http://elinks.ecc.edu/library/ and select and complete the Interlibrary Loan.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan is a service provided to current faculty, students, and staff for access to materials not owned by the library. Through the use of a computerized library network and reciprocal borrowing agreements, ECC has access to library resources world wide. Interlibrary Loan services support the research, study, and teaching needs of the college. If the ECC Library does not own the book or journal article you need, we may be able to obtain them from another library.

Before placing a request, please check the ECC online catalog to see whether we own the item.

To request materials, go to the library home page at http://elinks.ecc.edu/library/ and select Interlibrary Loan.

The requestor will be notified promptly if and why any ILL cannot be filled.

While the library will pay the cost of shipping ILL materials to distance learners, return shipping to our library must be paid for by the borrowerA return address label is included for your convenience.

Items requested from other libraries are generally received within three to ten days. Turnaround time depends upon the type of item requested (book or article) and the availability of the requested item at the libraries contacted. When placing a request, please take this into consideration.

Book Request:

Use this section of the ILL form to request a book.  We will make every effort to obtain requested materials.

Items for personal use should be borrowed through your local public library.

Article Request:

Use this section of the ILL form to request a copy of a journal, newspaper or magazine article.

We will make every effort to obtain requested materials but some copyright restrictions may apply, thereby preventing us from filling your request.

  • Materials which are generally not available through ILL:

  • Reference books

  • Items owned by the ECC libraries but temporarily in use

  • Textbooks used at ECC

  • Required course material

  • Whole volumes or issues of periodicals

  •  AV material and computer software programs

  • Recreational reading materials

  • Any material that a lending library chooses not to circulate

At this time there is a limit of 6 items that can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Loan Period and Recalls:

Photocopies are yours to keep. The loan period for books and audiovisual materials is determined by the lending library and may vary from two to four weeks. You are required to abide by any restrictions stipulated by the lender, such as “No Renewals” or “Library Use Only.”

Interlibrary loan materials are subject to recall by the lending institution. If you receive notification that an item has been recalled, you are required to return the item to us within 24 hours.

Failure to honor due dates, lending restrictions and recalls could result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Renewals:

Library books can be renewed one time.  Renewals can be made in person, by telephone or via the Internet.  To renew by telephone, borrowers can call the library circulation desk from which they borrowed the book (City 851-1074, North 851-1273, South 851-1772).  To renew via the Internet:

  1. Go to the library homepage at http://elinks.ecc.edu/library/

  2. Click on ECC Library Catalog.

  3. Sign into "My Library Account."  Follow directions on the screen.

  4. Click on " Your Account" at the top of the page.

  5. Click on "Loans."

  6. Click on "Renew All" or on the number of the item you wish to renew and "Renew."

ILL renewals are at the discretion of the lending library. Renewal requests should be requested before the item is due. Since policies of lending institutions vary widely, renewals cannot be guaranteed. Once an item is overdue, it cannot be renewed.

LATE RETURNS:

  • The owner of the ID used to borrow an item is responsible for its return.

  • Please check the due date stamped in the borrowed items and return them on or before that date.

  • Fines accrue on overdue items at the rate of $.10 per day for each day the library is open, up to a maximum of $10.

LOST MATERIALS:

If an item is lost, please contact the library immediately.  An item not returned six weeks after its due date is considered lost, and a bill will be sent to the borrower for its cost, plus a $10 billing fee.  If an item designated as lost is returned, the borrower will be responsible for paying the late fines.  All fees and fines are nonrefundable.  If an item is out of print and no cost can be determined, the borrower will be charged $20 for paperbacks and $40 for hardbound and the $10 billing fee.
