Google is the most popular search engine on the web and is highly favored among users and reviewers when compared to other search engines.  It has the largest index and is considered easy to use.

Google Scholar (GS) is a freely-accessible web search engine that indexes the full-text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. This index includes many peer-reviewed online journals of the    world's largest scientific publishers.

Yahoo! Search is the second largest web search engine on the internet, Yahoo also provides vertical search services such as Yahoo! Image, Yahoo! Video, Yahoo! Local, Yahoo! News, and Yahoo! Shopping Search.

Subject Directories - Smaller databases where you can search by subject or topic for web sites. They are compiled by human information experts with evaluation and quality of information in mind.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online allows you to find information quickly by searching magazines, journals, internet sites and Britannica videos. Maps and articles on nations and people, statistical portraits of countries, timelines and notable quotations can also be found here.
