Erie Community College
Plastics Certificate Program

General Information

ECC and a group of manufacturers in the local plastics industry have developed a flexible and convenient program of plastics education for Western New York. The program is a part-time, two-year evening sequence at the North Campus. Although not yet an officially registered program with SUNY, it is currently operating as a local certificate program that is recognized by participating companies. Contributors have included: Abbott Labs, Polymer Conversions, Delphi Automotive, Fisher-Price, Caplugs, Wilson-Greatbatch, and Delta Sales.

For students not requiring additional math preparation, the certificate program will require attendance two evenings per week. All eight courses contained in the certificate are credit bearing and count towards a SUNY approved A.O.S. Associate’s Degree in Industrial Technology.

Three types of individuals will be interested in the program:

  1. The first group of individuals will be already employed in the industry and in need of education that would make them better suited to work in positions such as plastics technician, process technician, quality technician, etc.
  2. A second group may be interested in some or all of the courses because they’ve had little or no formal education in the field of plastics. People in this category may be working as engineers, managers, sales persons, or molding-related positions.
  3. A third group will be those interested in beginning a career in the field.

Please contact Paul Pietraszewski at 851-1508 to set up a meeting for advisement:

  1. One purpose for this meeting is to learn about the program and have any unanswered questions answered.
  2. A second is to provide an opportunity to register in advance and reserve seating.
  3. The third and equally important purpose is for candidates to learn if their current math skills will enable them to meet the requirements of the program without the assistance of additional coursework. At the close of the meeting, we will administer a short assessment that will indicate whether the candidate will be able to take the curriculum’s designated math course in the first semester or needs to take one or more basic math courses to prepare.
