Portable Educational Network

The PEN (portable educational network) is a cart about 4 ft wide by 4 ft high with casters. It contains 3 server capable computers along with a teacher computer station, room for 10 laptops for student use, 15" LCD monitor, a stereo speaker system, Cisco switch and a Cisco firewall device.

The three server computers have been set up with the following operating systems: Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Fedora and Novell 9. The teacher station is set up with similar software as are on the latops the students will be using. All the laptops have been imaged and each one can boot into Windows XP or Linux Fedora Core.

A Cisco wireless access device has been configured to provide for wireless network access for the laptops. The server software has been loaded and configured and the course software has been loaded onto the laptops.
